POCKET SCARF WITH AUTOMATIC FRINGE
First knit 2 pieces of fringe. Cast on 3 stitches at least 4" left of center. Take yarn across to at least 4" right of center and cast on another 3 stitches. The gap between the 2 groups of stitches will produce floats the will become fringe.  Make the gap about 2.5 times the width of the desired finished fringe length
If row gauge is 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 per inch, knit 35,42,49,56,63,70,77,84 rows.. Bind off. Fold each fringe piece so that the stockinette side of both strips is out and stack them up. Baste them together down their centers with main yarn.

Scarf will be 7" wide. If stitch gauge is 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 per inch cast on 22,28,36,42,50,56,64 stitches. A chain stitch cast on is preferred. If row gauge is 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 per inch, knit 10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24 rows at main stitch size minus 2 whole numbers. Hang the cast on to close the hem. Turn up stitch dial 1 number. If row gauge is 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 per inch, knit 35,42,49,56,63,70,77,84 rows. Hang a fringe strip on every other working needle, making sure to go through both layers of fabric. If row gauge is 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 per inch, knit 35,42,49,56,63,70,77,84 rows. Turn up stitch dial to main size. If stitch gauge is 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 per inch cast on 11,14,18,21,25,28,32 stitches on the carriage side. Knit across. Cast on the same number of stitches on the other side. If row gauge is 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 per inch, knit 250,300,350,400,450,500,550,600 rows. Bind off the stitches that were most recently cast on on the side of the work where the carriage is now. Knit across  and bind off those on the opposite side. Turn down stitch dial 1 number. If row gauge is 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 per inch, knit 35,42,49,56,63,70,77,84 rows. Hang the 2nd fringe strip. If row gauge is 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 per inch, knit 35,42,49,56,63,70,77,84 rows. Using a separate length of main yarn, ewrap the working needles. Turn down stitch dial 1 number. If row gauge is 5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 per inch, knit 10,12,14,16,18,20,22,24 rows. Lift the recently made ewraps onto the working needles. Bind off using a chain stitched method.

Seam the edges of the pockets. Purl side will show on the front of the pocket. Seam the edges of the long piece of scarf to each other with the knit side out. With sewing thread, unroll the ends of the main scarf and stitch them to the back layer of the pocket only. Trim the fold off of the fringe evenly. Optional: separate the fringe strands into groups of 3 and knot every 2 bundles together.
